Blog 09 – Look Productions works with LaStrada media to launch new company!

Hi all,

Look Productions was asked to help launch La Strada Media’s new company, by producing a short film for their new website. La Strada Media aims to produce web video content for their clients by creating short films, sitcoms, documentaries, etc, and using web video as a conduit to transmit their client’s messages, information and services. Led by Philippe Regnoux, an actor and entrepreneur in his own right, we collaborated to create a short film entitled “On a tous une histoire a raconter” (we all have a story to tell), which is also La Strada Media’s tag line.

For this shoot, we managed to find the perfect location for the film, which was to be set in a coffee shop. After trying out a few different venues, Mr.Regnoux managed to convince the owner of the well known “Club Social” in mile end (a Montreal landmark) to not only allow us to film in his coffee shop, but to also make a cameo appearance.

The script was written, the venue was found, the actors were ready and Look Productions took care of providing the technical requirements of lighting, sound and video.

One small detail…..we were not aware that the coffee shop would be as busy as it was on a Saturday morning at 7am! We were warned that some people would come in early but we didnt realize that it would quickly fill up in the wee hours of the morning. “Bref”, the shoot was forced to get done very quickly and we had to make due with what he had and bare the natural elements of shooting in a loud and bustling café.

To make a long story short, we did what we could but when we got home, we quickly realized that the audio was unusable. During the best and most important moments of our lead actor’s lines, there were babies crying in the background, coffee machine spewing steam, etc, it was quite a nightmare for even a seasoned sound engineer. Now, rather than overdub everything or start over, we decided to give the footage a try and have a go at a silent film. To our surprise and delight, the actors did such a great job and were so charismatic and expressive, that we quickly discovered that the movie could support itself without any dialogue at all. So we went ahead and edited the short film and are very happy with the final result!

Of course, there will be some that will think it was planned and an homage of sorts to “the Artist”, a silent movie that has garnered much attention and praise at this year’s Oscar awards. However, the reality is that none of us have even seen the film and really, this ended up being a simple case of making lemonade with lemons! 🙂

Check back soon to see the film on our portfolio page! Until then, here’s a sneak peak!

Sincerely,

The Look Productions team
