Hi all,
Look Productions was asked to help launch La Strada Media’s new company, by producing a short film for their new website. La Strada Media aims to produce web video content for their clients by creating short films, sitcoms, documentaries, etc, and using web video as a conduit to transmit their client’s messages, information and services. Led by Philippe Regnoux, an actor and entrepreneur in his own right, we collaborated to create a short film entitled “On a tous une histoire a raconter” (we all have a story to tell), which is also La Strada Media’s tag line.
For this shoot, we managed to find the perfect location for the film, which was to be set in a coffee shop. After trying out a few different venues, Mr.Regnoux managed to convince the owner of the well known “Club Social” in mile end (a Montreal landmark) to not only allow us to film in his coffee shop, but to also make a cameo appearance.
The script was written, the venue was found, the actors were ready and Look Productions took care of providing the technical requirements of lighting, sound and video.
One small detail…..we were not aware that the coffee shop would be as busy as it was on a Saturday morning at 7am! We were warned that some people would come in early but we didnt realize that it would quickly fill up in the wee hours of the morning. “Bref”, the shoot was forced to get done very quickly and we had to make due with what he had and bare the natural elements of shooting in a loud and bustling café.
To make a long story short, we did what we could but when we got home, we quickly realized that the audio was unusable. During the best and most important moments of our lead actor’s lines, there were babies crying in the background, coffee machine spewing steam, etc, it was quite a nightmare for even a seasoned sound engineer. Now, rather than overdub everything or start over, we decided to give the footage a try and have a go at a silent film. To our surprise and delight, the actors did such a great job and were so charismatic and expressive, that we quickly discovered that the movie could support itself without any dialogue at all. So we went ahead and edited the short film and are very happy with the final result!
Of course, there will be some that will think it was planned and an homage of sorts to “the Artist”, a silent movie that has garnered much attention and praise at this year’s Oscar awards. However, the reality is that none of us have even seen the film and really, this ended up being a simple case of making lemonade with lemons! 🙂
Check back soon to see the film on our portfolio page! Until then, here’s a sneak peak!
Sincerely,
The Look Productions team
Hi all,
Today is the official launch of the C2MTL social media campaign! Look Productions was asked to participate in producing video content for the campaign and has had the pleasure of working with some very talented folks at Twist Image, C2MTL and Jimmy Lee (Sid Lee). Our first video launches today and it offers insight into the corporate culture/creative strategy of Montreal’s own Moment Factory. MF is a world renown company that specializes in the creation high tech, interactive installations, among many other things. They are the company behind such visual productions as the 2012 Madonna Superbowl half time show in Indianapolis USA, Celine Dion’s stage show in Las Vegas and Nine Inch Nails live touring show, among many other amazing creations.
We had the opportunity to sit a few moments with Eric Fournier, one of Moment Factory’s founders and partners. He spoke about the philosophy behind this forward thinking creative company, which is exactly what C2MTL is all about. Check out the video interview and Moment Factory tour on our portfolio page.
There’s more to come from C2MTL, stay tuned!

Hi all,
Lawyers and Law firms tend to conjure up images of old text books, encyclopedias, balances, mallets and the like. In the 21st century however, traditional business such as these, are making valiant efforts to think outside the box and differentiate themselves, in an ever changing and saturated market.
When we were asked to create a strong brand identity and website design concept for the new Opus Legal offices in Old Montreal, we were delighted at the opportunity to work with Law specialists who have a strong modernistic vision for their business and brand. Production is underway to create Opus Legal’s branding, graphic design and brand new website, unlike what has been seen before in this field. The key is simplicity and sophistication, with careful attention to color, functionality & esthetics. One visit to the Opus Legal offices and it becomes very clear that there is a strong drive to bring something fresh, classy and new to their business. Our job is to match their intention with a very strong creative identity, in order to ultimately bring their vision to life. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project and we will be sure to keep you informed on upcoming news.
Best regards,
The Look Productions team

Some big news just came out today from Canon in releasing their much anticipated upgrade to the hugely popular Canon 5D Mark 2, which was released 3 years ago. Since then, nothing has been the same. The lines between the film and photography industries, as well as, professional and independent movie making, have become very blurred. For those of you who don’t know what all the fuss is about; it basically revolves around the possibility of shooting hollywood quality footage with a photography camera, at a price point that has never been seen before the launch of the Canon 5D Mark 2 and the Nikon D90. Being a proud owner of a 5DMark2 myself, I was obviously anticipating what the new changes to the legendary camera would be and the good news is, I was not disappointed from what I read. It seems that the folks at Canon have been listening to the complaints and needs of filmmakers and Photographers for the past few years and have come up with some pretty impressive upgrades, that make this new camera a very strong contender in an increasingly brutal and competitive HDSLR market. We’ll all have to wait until the end of March when the first Mark 3s are released, to find out just how well the new features perform. My guess is that these cameras will be flying off the shelves. B+H is already sold out on pre-orders and good luck finding one at your local camera shop. I’m gonna try to get mine, how about you?

Since the release of the Canon 5D Mark 2, I have been engulfed in the ever changing landscape of HDSLR digital photo/video camera technology. I think it’s safe to say that the Canon 5DM2 revolutionized the entire industry and brought high end video and film production to an even playing field for the first time in history. And it could also be argued that the man who was instrumental in pushing everything over the edge and starting the revolution was non other than Vincent Laforet. Vincent was best known for his award winning photography when he stumbled upon a prototype of the, now legendary, 5DM2. On a whim, he decided to produce a short video piece entitled “Reverie”, which went on to thrust him into the spotlight as the photographer who crossed over into video and hasn’t really turned back since. How do I know? I asked him and he told me. That’s right. Vince and Canon are presently on a cross Canada tour promoting the release of the new C300 Cinema camera. A massive upgrade from the HDSLR technology that changed everything and actually, Canon’s first real foray into the realm of professional film and videography. The camera packs an impressive 4K sensor as well as all the necessary bells and whistles like time code, audio sync, HDMI out, etc, that were lacking from it’s younger HDSLR predecessors in the EOS line. The camera also clocks in at an impressive price point of 16K$, which compared to its rivals in similar categories, is quite a good deal, believe it or not. It may not be as accesible to the masses as were previous EOS models but it is sure to make a serious mark in the world of high end video technology. Check out some pictures from the event!

For the past year, Look productions has been called upon to produce videos for both the Montreal general hospital as well as, the Children’s hospital. We recently created a Christmas video that was sent out via a newsletter, which was very well received! Next up was a video for the annual “Radiothon”, which is to be hosted by Chom Fm’s Terry Dimonte. Terry recently returned to Montreal, after having spent the past 4 years in Calgary. You may have seen the ads around Montreal proclaiming “Terry is back”, well he is, and we got to film an interview at the Chom Fm studios with Terry and former patient Steven Croucher. Steven took the rains and did a great job interviewing the celebrity radio host on his excitement and anticipation to be back home and to be reclaiming his position as host of the Children’s Radiothon this May 24th 2012. The video will be posted on Chom Fm’s website and will also be sent out as part of a news letter, with photos printed in the Children’s hospital magazine. We’re all looking forward to the event this year and hope it will be the most successful Radiothon ever!
Don’t forget to donate what you can!
All the best,
The Look productions team.
